I’m Thomas, an illustrator fuelled by the greater open-source movement.
It’s hard to pinpoint the start of NoGood. It slowly emerged as the result of a decade-long exploration to create work that is personally fulfilling. The pseudonym provided a space that I could experiment within as an illustrator, and I started taking on freelance projects using the NoGood moniker, as it transformed from a fun experiment into a full-time job.
The thought of producing an art book has simmered in the back of my mind for years. I’ve always been well aware of the amount of work required to complete such a project, and I’ve never mustered up the courage to start until, last fall, my visit to the Allard Pierson Museum ignited the spark I needed. It was there I discovered a book called Project Japan: Metabolism Talks by architect Rem Koolhaas and curator Hans Ulrich Obrist. It inspired me to start working on the NoGood book immediately.
This book, then, is my effort to showcase the many projects I’ve worked on since 2021, and to highlight open-source initiatives and their thriving communities. I aim for it to open doors to worlds mostly unknown to the average internet user.
The NoGood book is crowdfunded and self-published, initially created with the help of the Geyser community. The pre-orders cover the production cost of the book and I couldn’t produce it without those who backed me. To all of you, thank you!
